T. C. Thompkins has over forty years experience in the music industry as an entertainment consultant and radio specialist. He established his company, “Thompkins Marketing “, after leaving the position of vice President of CBS Records now known as Sony Music. Under his leadership, Epic and Associated Labels had been the number one urban label in the world for three years running.. As result of his experiences in the industry and his close association with some of the music industry’s icons and legendary performers, he was encouraged to begin his consulting company. . Thompkins Marketing has become known as one of the leading entertainment consulting firms in America. His reputation and knowledge of this business has been the key element that’s made the difference. Since Thompkins Marketing conception, it has played a key role in the development of such artist as, but not limited to: Rob G, Young Qoun, OTR Clique, Till, Bridgjett Taylor, Sjon Christopher, Betty Wright, Lady E, Nigel Lewis and Sound Mind, Berry Sea, K-Boo, DAP, Carman Liana, Ghetto Boys, Angie Stone, Domino, Nappy Roots, Brandy, Arrested Development, ALC, Mark Taylor, Poor Righteous Teacher, Howard Hewett, K. Riley, Jaheim, Big Mike, Alicia Keys, Public Enemy, Heather Headly, Tryese, Dr Ed Montgomery, Paster Oscar Richardson, Paris Houston, Craig David Khalil, Eric Benet, Marva King, Trick Daddy, BACKGROUND TC Thompkins’ music career began in 1971, in Memphis, Tennessee as a regional promotions director with STAX RECORDS. This was the stepping stone that gave him the love and respect for the hard work that came with bringing the music to the people. STAX RECORDS – Memphis, TN TC was a part of the Stax Record Team for two years and had the pleasure of working with such greats as, but not limited to the following: Issac Hayes, Richard Pryor, Staples Singers, Albert King, Confuction, Shirley Brown , Otis Redding, Eddie Floyd, The Emotions, The Barkays, Little Milton, Rufus Thomas CAPITOL RECORDS – Dallas, TX Thompkins relocated to Dallas, Texas and began working for Capitol Records. Capitol had just begun a new R&B segment of its music department. Voted Regional Director the Year and worked with such stars as: Natalie Cole (her debut project) Frankie Beverly and Maze (major force in the development of their first project) Tavaras ABC RECORDS – Dallas, TX Worked with such greats, among other greats as: Chaka Kahn, Dramatics, Four Tops, BB King, Crusaders, Pointer Sisters, Steely Dan CBS RECORDS – NEW YORK, NEW YORK Served as Regional Director, National Director and Vice President of Promotions of CBS/EPIC RECORDS. A key force in the development, marketing, and promotions of the following artist, but not limited to: Michael Jackson – Headed the promotions, marketing and development of his first solo projects. “OFF THE WALL and THRILLER” (which was the largest selling CD of all times, {forty million units, world wide}. Sade – Introduced this artist to the American market. Spear- headed the marketing and promotional campaign for The American debut project “Diamond Life”. Luther Vandross – Headed marketing, promotions and advertising campaign on first three projects (“Never To Much”, “Busy Body”, “and “Always, Forever, For Love”) all sold over two million units and have becomes classics . Other Projects were, but not limited to: Sign Teddy Riley to his first recording deal (Kids At Work), Isley Brothers, George Clinton, Barry White, Teddy Pendergrass, Mutume, Cindi Lauper, Tina Marie O'Jays, Patti LaBell, Culture Club, Lou Rawls, S.O.S Band (Debut Project), Heatwave, George Duke, HONORS AND AWARDS: Voted “Regional Director of the Year” for two years running Voted “Number One Urban Label” three of the six years during my tenure as Vice President Voted “Executive of the Year” by BRE Magazine WHO’s WHO in Black America for two years GR PRODUCTIONS Vice President of Operations, Developed marketing promotional campaign on all production company’s artist and clients.
